The Membership Committee is responsible for attracting new synagogue members (outreach) and then welcoming and integrating them into the Beth El family (inreach). The committee works in conjunction with the Rabbi, Nitzan and Navasky School Committees and committee chairs. Committee members may be asked to establish contact with new and existing Jewish families in the community not affiliated with our Congregation and invite them to synagogue functions. They may also be asked to seek out new arrivals to the community, as well as residents who are not affiliated with any local synagogue; to acquaint them with the various aspects of the synagogue program, and with the synagogue’s particular approach to Conservative Judaism; and to extend to them a warm welcome to the synagogue and an invitation to join. We encourage unaffiliated Jews to consider formal affiliation, stressing both the privileges and responsibilities that come with synagogue membership, and to embrace and orient new members to the congregation. The Committee also bids farewell in an acknowledged manner to members who move out of the area. The Membership Committee coordinates the Chinese food and a movie on December 25th, the Membership Directory, New Member Shabbat, Sandwiches and Sailboats, Shabbat Basketball, Shabbat Across America, Shabbat dinners, Shabbat Under the Stars, Simchat Torah luncheon, and 7th Night of Pesach dinner and Tu B’Shevat Seder. If you would like to speak with our Membership Chairs, Dina Fleishman & Sheryl Feldheim, please contact the office or call 203.838.2710.
