- We are about to have the privilege of welcoming an Israeli emissary from our sister region in Israel (Afula-Gilboa) to our schools and community. Through this program, supported by our partnership
with the UJA and our local synagogues, an Israeli
young adult spends a year in our community and enables us to experience a little bit of Israel in our backyard. The emissary participates in special school activities, creates programs for our kids on history, culture or current events and becomes a part of the synagogue tapestry. The emissary stays for about 3 months in each of the homes of 3 different host families in our area. Families from Beth El who have hosted in the past have found it a wonderful and fulfilling experience.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming a host family please contact Rabbi Fish or Rachel Nissenblatt for additional details.

- Did you ever wonder who the person is behind putting these wonderful bulletins together???
Her name is Meg Bailey and we are fortunate enough to have her design our wonderful bulletins. Meg is a graphic artist who came to us through Shari Gottlieb. Meg lives in upstate Connecticut but with modern technology we are able to do everything electronically.
It takes a lot of effort to get this bulletin to its final product. Once articles are sent to Meg she converts the articles to the format that her design software uses, she monitors the progress of articles sent to her, she does the layout, finds appropriate graphics, etc.
Therefore you must be aware of the following while submitting articles or pictures to the bulletin.
- Articles must be submitted by the deadline. The deadline for the bulletin is the 10th of the month preceding the published date.
- Articles must be submitted on a disk or via e-mail to bulletin@congbethel.org. Scanned documents cannot be used in the bulletin.
- All articles must be sent in Microsoft Word. Microsoft Publisher should not be used. If this is a problem please contact Meg via the email above or Hilary Shaefitz at shaef@optonline.net.
- Pictures should be saved and sent in JPEG format.
Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Hilary Shaefitz, Karen Schwam or Rachel Nissenblatt

Dear Friends,
Israel 's war with Hezbollah this summer began with the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers across the northern border. It followed by three weeks the kidnapping of another soldier by Hamas across the border of the Gaza Strip . As winter comes to the Middle East , Udi Goldwasser , Eldad Regev and Gilad Shalit remain in the hands of terrorists - alone and cut off from everything they have ever known. We had hoped that a way would have been found to bring them home already, but the passage of time gives us no reason for greater optimism. None of us can stand idly by when we have a chance to raise our voices on their behalf and in concert with the voices of their families.
Join us in our effort to bring international attention to their plight by adding your name to the petition at this website - www.freethesoldiers.org . Help us to make sure that their families know that they are not alone in their struggle to bring their sons, their brothers and their husbands home.
It will only take a moment to take add your name. Then, we have one more request. Take another moment to send this e-mail to everyone you know. When we reach one million signatures, United Synagogue will join organizations from across the Jewish world in delivering our petitions to the UN and to the halls of power everywhere.
Thank you.
